Class Information - Tahitian Dance

Tahitian Dance, like Hula is a form of Polynesian Dance. Tahitian Dance began prior to arrival of Europeans. Dancing was an important part of Tahitian life. The dances were used to celebrate, pray and mark special occasions.

Tahitian Dance like the men's otea dance and the couple's upa upa are common components of traditional Tahitian Dance.

Professional dance troupes called arioi toured the islands dancing erotically and sensually. Himene tarava replaced many traditional forms of Tahitian dance in the early 19th century.

Nixpac provides courses in both of the most popular forms of Polynesian Dance, Hula and Tahitian. Our staff is well versed in the traditional and modern forms of these styles of dance.
